Preserving the native language: Speech Therapist’s Advice
We invite you to take part in the second information seminar in our series of speech therapy talks for parents of bilingual children on the topic “How to help bilingual children preserve their native language in a linguistic environment of another dominant language: advice of a speech therapist”.
The seminar will be hosted by speech therapist Elena MacDonald.
Elena MacDonald has a unique knowledge of two professions, many years of teaching and speech therapy work.
Elena graduated from the Herzen State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg with a Teacher of foreign languages degree. She taught English and Spanish in Russian, Mexican and Australian schools, as well as institutes and universities in Russia and Mexico.
Having received a Master of Speech Pathology degree at Curtin University, Elena worked for fifteen years as a speech therapist with children and adults in various clinics and organizations in Perth.
The following topics will be discussed at the seminar:
- A brief review of the aspects of mastering the native, “inherited” language by bilingual children
- How to preserve your native language: Speech Therapist’s Tips
- Discussion of next term’s programme for speech therapy groups
We are also excited to announce that we’re accepting applications to the following speech therapy groups:
- 9:00 Individual lessons (by appointment)
- 10:00 ‘Little Ladder’ (4-5 years)
- 11:00 ‘Teremok’ (4-5 years)
- 12:00 ‘Globus’ Speaking Club (6-8 years)
At the end of the seminar, Elena will answer your questions and hold interviews with parents of children that have joined our speech therapy groups.
The seminar will be held on Saturday, July 25, from 11.00 to 13.00
